Wellsong Sessions

Brief History:

About a month ago, my neighbors at Wildwood were hosting an evening of “nurture pods” at the house, and after the event ended, I invited Daniel to come over to sing at the piano. We went through some sheet music and then transitioned to improvising together as he told the stories that were alive for him within his romantic partnership, and he came to realize through his song that he would be looking for a new place to live apart from his partner.

Another week passed, and I invited Daniel and Britta to a creativity workshop with Flora Bowley where we made art pieces and danced through the afternoon. At the lunch break we came home with a new friend to check on the dog, and to take turns singing for each other. The next day Daniel moved in with me. He has been here for about 3 weeks now, and we often have improvised song sessions in the morning and in the evening.

Overview of a session:

The idea is that one of us starts with an instrument, maybe the piano, organ, harp or drum, and the other responds by sharing how they are, what is on their mind at the moment. And we do it with singing, or it can just be talking over the accompaniment. But with the audience of the accompanist, amazing things can happen. And with groups, there can be an amplifying effect.

Many folks feel shy to share with groups, and private sessions are definitely an important option, and the place where a lot of the deep work is done. At the house, we have times for both group and individual Wellsongs Sessions, so reach out to me or Daniel if you’d like us to plan one with you.
